CUVÉE LE DARRYL
The Fourth of the Stealth Cuvées!
Yes…we have been hiding more things from you!
The fourth release of the secret stealth cuvées has flown through the Black Friday Night and is now available for Cyber Monday.
Cuvée Le Darryl received "Stealth Cuvee" methods (including two years of sur lies aging and additional bottle development) and is substantially different from the 1993 Cuvee LD Chardonnay which was released several years ago.
Less than eighty cases of this very special and limited wine were produced from the Jasper Long hillside vineyard located on West Dry Creek Road in Sonoma.
This Stealth Cuvée is the second in a series of bottlings dedicated to the
“Stealthy Society of Kalinites.”
Darryl was a volunteer Kalinite who helped make and bottle Kalin Wines for over ten years—when he was not occupied with a finance and business major at a well-known Bay Area University.
CUVÉE LE DARRYL
1993 CUVEE LE DARRYL SONOMA CHARDONNAY
The grape source is Long Vineyards located in the West Dry Creek area of Sonoma County. This hillside vineyard is planted with the Wente clone of Chardonnay, which produces small berries and low yields. The soil structure is clay underlain with shale and sandstone. Long Vineyard is adjacent to the Dry Creek River. The prevailing morning and evening coastal fog pattern insures a long, cool growing season, resulting in grapes possessing superior flavor and varietal definition.
Winemaking and Cellar Practice:
A special selection of grapes were hand picked and sorted, crushed and pressed. The juice was fermented and aged for twenty two months in new French oak barrels. The wine was racked, clarified by bentonite fining, and bottled sur lie in August 1995.
“Le Darryl” loved the concentration, voluptuous texture, and multifaceted complexity of high-appellation Puligny-Montrachet style Chardonnay. We have produced the kind of wine “Le Darryl” liked. Stealth Cuvee methods and an exceptional vintage have allowed this wine to transcend the boundaries of what we imagined to be possible with California Chardonnay. The unusually favorable fruit-acid structure of this cool climate site will allow the sustained development of bottle complexity.
Please note: This wine has been bottled without filtration to retain the essence of individual vineyard and vintage characteristics. With bottle age, unfiltered white wines will develop a light deposit and should be opened and served with care.
