1991 CUVÉE LR "Fin de Siècle" SONOMA CHARDONNAY
The First of the Stealth Cuvées!
Yes we have been hiding things from you!
The first release of the secret stealth cuvées is now available.
A special Cuvée Rare bottling of 1991 LR Sonoma Chardonnay was produced that has been designated "Fin de Siècle."
Fin de Siècle will be the last wine produced from the Long vineyard located adjacent to the Dry Creek River.
1991 was the final vintage for the Cuvée LR vineyard due to the spread of Pierces disease from an adjacent property.
The 1991vintage may be the "end of an era" for the Cuvée LR vineyardbut it has also produced a very special wine that should reach its apogee in time to welcome the beginning of a new era in 2000!
Each bottle of this Cuvée Rare series carries a gold "Fin de Siècle" emblem.
The grape source is Long Vineyards located in the West Dry Creek area of Sonoma County. The vineyard was planted with a low-yielding Burgundian clone of Chardonnay. The soil structure is clay loam underlain with deep gravel. The Cuvee LR vineyard is immediately adjacent to the Dry Creek River. The prevailing morning and evening coastal fog pattern insures a long, cool growing season; resulting in grapes possessing superior flavor and varietal definition.
Winemaking and Cellar Practices:
The grapes were selected from a particularly low yielding section of the vineyard, hand picked and sorted, crushed and gently pressed. The juice was fermented and aged sur lies for eleven months in all new French oak barrels. Following the completion of malolactic fermentation, the wine was racked, clarified by bentonite fining, and bottled without filtration in September 1992.
Long Vineyards traditionally produces wines which are intensely flavored, perfumed and powerful. Rich varietal character is combined with exotic essences reminiscent of orange blossoms, fresh tangerines, papaya, etc.
